The Nacreous Oughts

23 February 2012

    76.
in the parkinglot of Kroger
one old lady offers to help another
winter sunshine
& for once some sleep
lobster-headed guard
a new blank book

things i always meant to fix
anything that is like a mirror
a white thread & a black thread
and thinnest crescent
in the still-dark sky
i worry about things i've forgotten

& things i haven't forgotten
somewhere i have a shell
rows of screens:
blue skies, green fields
in ev'ry one
computer-generated
injustice triumphs
we don't tell each other
stories like that
is it a failure
of the imagination
& all the civilizations
that didn't make it
what was that like?
delectation
of one's own indecision
a shadow circling
then growing larger
